Por qué llorax blanca niña
Moricos los mis moricos
Lavava y suspirava
Paxarico tu te llamas
La reina Xerifa mora
Por allí pasó un cavallero

Why this recording appears on our home page

In 1976 Hespèrion XX, led by gambist Jordi Savall and his wife Montserrat Figueras, released a 2-LP recording titled "Music from Christian and Jewish Spain." With Victoria De los Angeles, Hespèrion XX laid down a template that has been used widely ever since: medieval instruments, medieval sounding arrangements, medieval claims for much of the music and vocalists typically performing in an art song or folk-inflected style.
