History

The Mayesh Phonograph Record Co. released all but three of the recordings by Sephardic recording artist Jack Mayesh. (The others were on Me-Re.) These recordings were mastered in Los Angeles at the Electro-Vox studio from late 1941 to mid-1944 were sometimes released bearing Electro-Vox labels.

The Electro-Vox studio was started by Bert Gottschalk in Los Angeles in 1931. In the mid-1960s his son Alan took over the business. When I called to inquire about the Mayesh sessions, Alan kindly retrieved the original logbooks and provided dating information. The studio has since closed. Please see http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/pro/messages/133.html for more information.
